Contemporary
home accessories add the finishing
touches of style and elegance to your
home. Combining simplicity with earthy
natural materials, our lamps, vases,
bowls, plant pots, plates and mats
appeal to the discerning buyer who
appreciates uncluttered design. The
natural materials bring a sense of
exotic into the contemporary home, which
cannot be found in every high street
store. Our accessories are designed to
complement the furniture range however
they are visually stunning in their own
right.
The Handicraft Gallery
Accessories range are designed with a
tranquil blend of natural, ethnic
materials and contemporary form. The
materials are all naturally grown in
abundance in Indonesia.
Indonesia consists of 13,000 different
islands, which means there is a lot of
water and therefore many of our
accessories use natural water based
reeds such as water hyacinth, coco,
rattan and coco stick. Also there are
other natural exotic fibrous products
such as banana leaf weave, bamboo,
mahogany bark, pungent plant roots and
coconut. All these materials have very
contrasting textures compared with the
simple, clean lines of the solid
teakwood furniture.
Handicraft Gallery is constantly seeking
out and experimenting not only with new
designs but different natural materials.
The Indonesian craftsmen are extremely
resourceful people and are constantly
striving to discover new and exciting
ways to work with their natural
resources.

Ceramic
Naturally lime rich solid of central
Java yields a lot of ceramic products
from this area. Handicraft Gallery have
a range of natural ceramic pots which
are hand-painted in Indonesia by their
chosen craftsmen. They also use large
ceramic pots as the base to wrap water
hyacinth, bamboo, tree bark and banana
around to make very unique textured
floor standing pots which have many
different functions.
Wood
The majority of wood used in the
Handicraft Gallery accessories range is
young mahogany and others java wood
because it is very easy to carve, shape
and manipulate. The local Javanese
craftsmen are skilled in hand crafting
these uniquely designed display pots
from sustainable mahogany plantations –
the dark smooth melamine finish is easy
to wipe clean.
Coconut
Coconut is in abundance in Indonesia and
the resourceful Indonesian craftsmen are
experts at fashioning almost anything
from discarded broken coconut shells.
Mixed with resin and polished, the
accessories compliment the Handicraft
Gallery range perfectly.
Aluminum
Although not a natural local material
our craftsmen are encouraged to
experiment using modern materials such
as aluminum. The shiny finish of the
aluminum contrasts well with the dark
finish of the furniture. The aluminum
products are all cast using locally made
dies so that the finish is intentionally
imperfect which gives the products a
rustic handmade feel.
Lava
All lava products are handmade from
solidified lava from the Merapi Volcano
in Java which was active less than 100
years ago. Huge lumps of lava stone are
chiseled from the immense area of the
Merapi Volcano and taken back to the
craftsmen’s workshop. There they set
about hand carving the rock into the
Handicraft Gallery designs. Each lava
bowl has the Handicraft Gallery logo
handcrafted onto the underside. The lava
stone is quite porous however we do
provide an option of sealing the stone
which makes it darker yet waterproof.
